Adaptive Music

You're shipping a game or an app that needs a score which adapts to the player — with a provenance a lawyer can sign off on.

XJ is a patented, composer-authored, locally-running adaptive-music system, built for the exact moment the market started paying for audio a lawyer can sign off on. The point isn’t to out-generate anyone — it’s to own the structured, adaptive, embeddable layer: the score that never repeats, with provenance that holds up. Start small; the sprint exists to make “try XJ commercially” a $7,500 decision instead of a $50,000 leap.

How it works

The Adaptive Score Sprint is the paid pilot, run on fixed exit criteria:

  1. Fit check. Engine, platform, budget band, timeline — we confirm XJ is the right layer for your title, or tell you it isn’t. Exit: a go / no-go you can trust.
  2. Author the space. One possibility-space with two player-state transitions, composed for your game’s moments. Exit: the space plays and transitions in isolation.
  3. Integrate and play. The score runs live in your build via the plugin or engine. Exit: an in-game demo you can show a stakeholder.
  4. Hand off. A working session so your team owns the integration and knows the license path. Exit: your engineers can extend it without us.

Fit / not-fit

This is for you if

  • You’re shipping a systemic, roguelike, ambient-heavy, or long-session title where linear loops wear thin
  • You need continuous, non-repeating music without per-track licensing headaches
  • Your legal team asks “is your generative audio rights-clean?” and you want a good answer
  • You’d rather own an adaptive system than buy minutes of static score

We're probably not your studio if

  • You want AI music that mimics a specific artist — that’s the thing XJ deliberately isn’t
  • You need a single linear track for a trailer; hire a composer for that
  • You want the cheapest possible stems and don’t care about provenance
  • You need a fully staffed audio middleware vendor with 24/7 support tiers

Adaptive-music fit check

Four questions point you at the right door — free tier, a sprint, a full commission, or a license call. Ranges beat false precision; skip anything that doesn't apply.

Prefer to talk first? Ask for a 20-minute fit call in the form and we’ll send a time.

Ballpark is fine — it just points us at the right tier.

Questions people ask

Why a $7,500 sprint before a license?
Because a paid pilot beats a sales pitch. The sprint puts XJ into your actual build so you can hear it in your game and decide with evidence, not promises. Many sprints convert into an embed license; some conclude that XJ isn’t the fit — both are fine, and you keep the integration work either way.
Who owns the music and the integration?
You own the authored possibility-spaces and the integration in your title, under the embed license. XJ’s engine and the patent stay the studio’s — you license the right to ship music made with them. Nothing about your game trains anything; there’s no cloud round-trip and no training-data exposure.
Is this AI music?
No. XJ is a rules-based, composer-authored adaptive-score system with a granted U.S. patent (10,446,126). The libraries are written by composers; the engine arranges them live. We never market it as AI music, because it isn’t.
What if we outgrow the sprint mid-project?
Scope changes are change orders — named, priced, and agreed before work continues. A sprint is one integration at a time by design; if the project grows into a full score, that’s a commission conversation with its own timeline.
Where are the full license terms and anchors?
xjmusic.com/license is the canonical, up-to-date source — the product face carries the license page so the tiers never drift between two places. The bands above are a summary; the anchors there are what a procurement team should reference. Inbound licensing goes to licensing@xjmusic.com.
